The Reason to Retire Hurricane Names
Until I took the time to learn, I was never quite sure how they made the decision on naming tropical storms and hurricanes. Where did they come up with the hurricane names? Here is a little of what I learned; apparently, there are six lists of names for tropical storms and hurricanes that repeat every six years. However, if there is an unusually large or damaging hurricane, the name is retired by the World Meteorological Organization’s hurricane committee because using it again could be considered inconsiderate and insensitive. The hurricane name is then retired and not used for at least ten years.
